In this installment of our Vendor Spotlight series we get to know LandlordsNY Legal Expert and Co-Managing Partner at @Holm & O'Hara LLP, Michael L. Landsman, Esq.
How long have you been in the business and how did you get started?
I have been in the business for over 20 years and I got started working for a large law firm under the supervision of Mayor Koch. I have always enjoyed working with people in the real estate community and value the long-term relationships within the industry.
Tell us about yourself.
The most important focus of my life outside of the office is helping my twin daughters, my wife and our respective families. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends on weekends. My interests include cooking, traveling and learning about other cultures. I am also working on a book designed to help real estate investors with long-term planning issues.
What advice would you give to yourself if you were at the beginning of your career?
Focus on long-term relationships and skill building while leaving a trail of trust and confidence along the way.
What do you find most hopeful in NY's real estate industry?
The perpetually evolving and dynamic culture of New York City will ensure that real estate will remain an attractive investment opportunity.
What do you find most concerning?
The alarming naïveté of certain governmental officials regarding the real estate industry.
If you were to do anything else, what would that be?
I would be a real estate developer and own and operate my own portfolio of real estate investments.
How do you think the business will be different in 10 years?
I think developments in technology and laws will continue to change the business in ways that we cannot always predict.

Tell us how your business helps landlords?
We help landlords in a myriad of different ways, including acquisitions, sales, like-kind exchanges and estate planning.
What was your first job?
My first job was working as a dishwasher on the weekends where I learned the importance of treating everyone with respect and the value of hard work.
What do you find most rewarding about your career?
Helping real estate investors with long-term planning and finding creative solutions to their specific circumstances.
