Less than a year remaining until the DOB elevator compliance deadline!

On January 1, 2020, all elevators in NYC MUST comply with the Elevator Door Lock Monitoring Code that is already in effect.

A door-lock monitor is an electronic device that prevents an elevator from moving if the doors are not closed properly.

The code (ASME A17.3 as modified by NYC Building Code appendix K3, Rule 3.10.12) states that a means shall be provided to monitor the hall doors and car door/gate for faulty contact circuits, and, if a faulty circuit is detected, the system will keep the elevator car locked in place until all of the doors are properly closed.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR ELEVATOR SERVICE COMPANY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR AN ASSESSMENT OF WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BRING YOUR ELEVATOR UP TO CODE.

Depending on the extent of the work needed to on your elevator, projects can require a significant amount of time to accomplish, and with so many elevators in NYC affected, the elevator companies will encounter labor and equipment backlogs which will further delay completion.

DOB violations, or possibly more severe penalties may result after January 1, 2020.

Please contact us with any questions regarding this code requirement.
